This blog post will be different from others because instead of exploring strength training methods I will share here my experience in coaching people. I do this for a living, so I guess I have a thing or two to share with you. If you have no interest in this topic, then feel free to skip this article.

In comments section to this article, my long-time reader and good friend Gabri asked to write something on coaching. So, I thought: “Why not?” What you can read here is the result.

Coaching is a very wide theme. You can write a lot on this. Therefore, I asked Gabri for a list of questions that bothered him. As a result, this article will be some sort of improvised interview.

MS: Hi Alex! I own a gym called Ambition Athletics, and I travel around the world as a Master RKC instructor. I enjoy Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu as well as highland games and Ping-Pong.

MS: I got my start when I finished playing soccer around 19 years old. At the time, I couldn’t touch my toes or do even one pull-up. I have been training now for around 6 years.

Bodyweight Reverse Pyramid Training

Rough Strength Back Lever on RingsSo I have not been releasing new articles for quite some time. You may think: “Ah… He just gets drunk every night and is so hungover that cannot even type”. There is no fucking way for this to be true. I was busy with some useful things, which I will reveal at the end.

And now I would like to kick some ass with an article about the training approach that I consider the one of the most effective out there. Enter the Reverse Pyramid Training.

What Is Reverse Pyramid Training [RPT]?

It all started in my early training days. I experimented a bit with an approach  that everybody called “Reverse Pyramid Training”. There was no information on it, and I had no access to the internet at that time. It was a pure assumption that if you can ramp the weight up every set, you should be able to do it other way around. Due to the lack of expertise and  the moronic race to increase the working weight every session I was not able to get any meaningful results. As a consequence, I dropped the approach and considered it ineffective for some time.

Several years ago I was introduced to a reasonable version of Reverse Pyramid Training by this article. Martin Berkhan claimed it to be “the most successful” for him and his clients. The photos and videos proved his words. After that, I have seen lots of people all over the internet who used this approach with success.

How to Achieve the One-Arm Handstand Push-Up

Convict One-Arm Handstand Push-UpNOTICE: To avoid any misunderstanding (and possible penis reduction in some individuals) by OAHSPU I mean wall-assisted One-Arm Handstand Push-Up (or as many people prefer to call it One-Arm Headstand Push-Up). You kick up into handstand with feet resting on the wall. Take away one arm and lower down until your head touches the floor. Then push back up.

So today’s theme is the mighty One-Arm Handstand Push-Up – the move that many people consider impossible. And only few individuals around the world take all their determination into a fist and are training for it day in day out. Are they out of their mind? Probably. Is it worth it? In my opinion, yes. And that’s not because I’m one of them. It’s worth the time and effort because OAHSPU is like holy grail for me. It matches all my requirements for ultra-heavy minimalistic no-tech upper-body pushing exercise, it resonates with my inner self and its “impossibility” adds some more spice to it. This move undoubtedly requires your full concentration, lots of time, effort and hard work. That’s what lures me to it. Are there better and safer ways to develop shoulder and triceps strength and size? Most definitely. But with all the safety you miss the romance of exploration.

Recently I was lucky enough to contact several people to provide some insights on the move. These people are Paul Wade, Jonathan Ferland-Valois and Logan Christopher. It’s always educating to hear [read] different people’s ideas especially if they are experts in the field (like these guys), so I figured out that it would be interesting to bring them all together and make some kind of a round table. Wedding, Greece, Handstands and How to Survive All Inclusive

Me and My WifeToday’s post will be unusual (I mean, more unusual than all of my posts). I wasn’t writing for some time for a good reason. If you are following my updates on Rough Strength Facebook page you probably already know what I’m talking about but if you missed the info here are the great news: I got married. Yes, ladies, you missed your chance. I am very thankful to everyone who congratulated me, you are awesome. So I’d like to dedicate this post to the event and all the struggles and happy findings I came across during this period.

One-Arm Chin-Up Tips

One-Arm Chin-UpThe One-Arm Chin-Up.

I can’t be more official because it’s the skill that everyone admires (or at least should admire). True master of One-Arm Chin-Up possesses such biceps and lats (for their bodyweight, of course) that all conventional bodybuilders will silently stand in the corner, cry and burn from envy. He obtains arm strength to match that size.

Some people think that this feat of strength is out of reach. Especially heavyweight ones. But it isn’t so. I heard of at least two persons that are approx. 100 kg (220 lbs). I don’t remember the name of the first one but the second is Metin a.k.a. LittleBeastM. You have probably seen his videos. If not, then here’s link to his YouTube channel: LittleBeastM’s YouTube Channel. You should definitely check this guy out. He’s probably the heaviest guy to perform such feats of bodyweight strength.
